Mirror Yard, Glen Burnie, MD

Mirror Yard
Glen Burnie, MD

Creative use of mirrors and mosaics adorn this yard in Glen Burnie, MD. Bob Benson's A-frame Chalet sits behind two man-made trees that are covered in hundreds of hand-cut pieces of mirrors and mirror-covered mobiles and ornaments.  Benson is a mirror artist, perhaps most famous for the bedazzled Besides his front yard, Benson's mirrored works include the Universal Tree of Life in front of the American Visionary Art Museum near Baltimore's Inner Harbor and his inside hanging exhibit called Icarus ocean and sun structures in the museum's hanging Icarus exhibit. In his own words, Benson calls himself a "Pastafarian (a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster). He says that "It's the only religion that makes sense because they love everybody, and they don't hate anybody. They work two days a week and enjoy life the rest of the time, and that sounds to me ideal. Their deity is the flying spaghetti monster, and I have one in my exhibit at the Visionary Arts Museum. I used real spaghetti in it."
