Chateau Laroche, Loveland, OH
On the
banks of the Little Miami River, after winding your way through a beautiful neighborhood,
you will find the Château Laroche or the Loveland Castle. The idea of a Boy Scout leader, who in 1929,
purchased small plots of land from the Cincinnati Enquire to build a castle
similar to a historic European castle. A folly of a historical European castle,
construction began in 1929 by Boy Scout troop leader Harry Andrews. Upon his
death in 1981, Andrews willed the castle to his Boy Scout troop the Knights of
the Golden Trail (whose only vows are the Ten Commandments)
They have
continued to renovate and upgrade the castle since his death and now is a small
museum and garden that tells of Andrews quest to complete his dream. The castle
is now surrounded by many beautiful gardens and is open for visitors. The walls
of the castle contain stones from all over the world. Guess what?-Haunted. Roadside
America has an excellent and thorough write up of Chateau Laroche at http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/9795
