Amelia Bedelia Statue, Manning, SC

You remember Amelia Bedelia from your childhood. The maid who took things literally. Her statue stands at Harvin Clarendon County Library in Manning, SC, a tribute to Peggy Parish, a Manning resident who created this beloved character. The library is on North Brooks Street not far from the Swamp Fox murals, also in town. The book was illustrated by Fritz Siebel. Remember when she was told to "dust the furniture" or "put the lights out"?The story recalls Amelia Bedelia being a hired maid for the wealthy Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. Mrs. Rogers gives Amelia Bedelia a list of chores to complete while the couple goes out for the the day, never suspecting that Amelia Bedelia would take the list quit seriously.
