Franklin Pierce Doorsteps and House (vacant lot) where he died, Concord, NH
While in Concord, NH, I visited the
former home of President Franklin Pierce, well actually his doorsteps and a
vacant house that previously was where his house stood until 1975. He live in
concord on this spot from 1855 until his death in 1869. The door steps are
where Pierce stood warding off an angry mob protesting that Pierce was not
flying the American Flag in memoriam to Abraham Lincoln assassination. Pierce
stated that “his long history of service to the nation should speak for his patriotism
louder than any flag”. The mob, convinced of his loyalty left him alone.
