Giant Jesus"So Big", Monroe, OH

Giant Jesus"So Big", Monroe, OH

It’s nickname is Hug Me Jesus but I like to call it “How big is Jesus”….”So Big” This 52-foot-tall Jesus replaced the original Touchdown Jesus that was destroyed by lightning and fire in 2010. The lighted statue faces Interstate 75 in Monroe, OH with open arms. It also overlooks a pond filled with fake alligators and flamingos along its circular walking path.
“Touchdown Jesus” or “Big Butter Jesus” stood on the exact spot where “Hug Me Jesus” now stands. The previous statue depicted Jesus from the waist up with hands uplifted almost indicating a touchdown; its creamy color gave it the name “Big Butter”.
The statue was recently replaced by Sculptor Tom Tsuchiya in September of 2012 in front of the Monroe Solid Rock Church. The new statue stands over 50 feet tall. This one a little more durable as it is made of a fire resistant Styrofoam and Jesus sports a lightning rod instead of a halo.
