Gravestone of Shorty the Squirrel, Tyler, TX
Memorial headstone to a Tyler Texas' favorite rodent, Shorty.Beloved by the towns folk especially a Miss Geneva Pillow (Roadside America) who, along with the citizens of Tyler, who visited this begging panhandling little fur ball, fed him daily. He was honored while alive for his 15 years with a special pedestrian crossing and a lower speed limit outside the Courthouse. It sits in the tree planter box in the corner of the Veteran's Park across from the County Court House. Wasn't easy to find until I asked the homeless guy about the famous Tyler squirrel and realized he was sitting next to it after previously laying on it. Marker was in place as of this post. but apparently it is a popular "let's steal the squirrel marker".
