The Original American Kazoo Company and Museum, Eden, NY
Who would of thought that the simple beginnings of America's most famous musical instrument began in a sheet metal shop in Eden, NY. Harry Richardson was making parts for peanut vending and toy and novelty machines when he was introduced to the "wooden" kazoo in 1915. After its patent in 1923, the demand for Kazoos was so great that all other metal operations ceased and efforts were concentrated on that humming gem. The museum gives the history of the kazoo from its humble wooden beginnings to kazoos shaped like trumpets, trombones and even liquor bottles to celebrate the end of prohibition. I was able to watch the step by step process of the making of a kazoo. You can even make your own. A little off the beaten path, just southeast of Buffalo but a must see.Tell me is there anyone who cant play a kazoo.
