Painted on the side wall of the now closed Troy Pub and Brewery is a mural of the Uncle Sam Brewery in Troy, NY, featuring hometown, USA and World hero Samuel "Uncle Sam" Wilson. painted by Kevin Clark.
Soldiers during the war of 1812 received barrels of meat shipped to them with a big U.S. stamped on their side. Legend has it they thought it was a gift from Uncle Sam (because a man by the name of Samuel Wilson, had obtained the contract from the US Government to feed the Army)
Since that time the image of Uncle Sam has been associated with American Patriotism.
