Cardiff Kook Surfer Statue, Cardiff by the Sea, CA
This statue ($92,000 commissioned by the Cardiff Botanical Society and designed by Matthew Antichevich) sits outside of the San Elijo’s
State Beach and features a young surfer riding the waves along Highway 101 in
historic Cardiff-by-the-Sea along the San Diego coastline. The statue named “Magic
Carpet Ride” has many critics as the local surfers say it has an almost ballet
appearance, effeminate they say. Because
of this the “Cardiff Kook” is always the blunt of criticism as well as many a
prank. (Dressed as a clown, Zorro, and even eaten by Jaws)
