Tribute to Bob Hope, San Diego, CA
Thanks for the Memories. Overlooking the San Diego Bay in
the shadow of the carrier USS Enterprise this national tribute to Bob Hope and
the thousands of troops that he entertained in his 50 years of USO tours is a
cheery and solemn reminder of the sacrifice of our veterans. Created by artists
Eugene Daub & Steven Whyte it is located on Harbor Drive at the G Street
Mole. The waterside park also pays tribute to the World War II Paratrooper 101st
Division Screaming Eagles, 45th Infantry of the Korean War, the Gulf
War Soldier in Desert Storm and Air Force Staff Sergeant, the Korean War Sailor
and Marine, World War II Fighter Pilot, Navy Pilot Lieutenant and Marine Corps
Sergeant, Vietnam War Artilleryman and Air Force Mechanic, and the Vietnam War
Navy Medic and WW II Army Nurse. I was fortunate enough to also see Unconditional
Surrender" -- the giant statue of a World War II sailor kissing a nurse
that sits at the entrance of the park.
