Giant Eye Glasses, Southbridge, MA

Giant Eye Glasses, Southbridge, MA

Right in front of the old headquarters of the American Optical Company building sits a 19-foot, 2,000-pound pair of eyeglasses in the middle of a park called the Town Common.  Created by blacksmith-artist Michael J. Saari in 2010 it is dedicated to the workers of the American Optical Company and memorializes the optical heritage of Southbridge, MA and the former American Optical that stood so long in this town. The project was due to a donation from the Swiacki sisters, retired schoolteachers and cost $85,500 to build.
